There are two issues, I want to ask those who criticise MF Hussein.

    1) Tehelka Hidden Camera episode shows RSS leaders were offered to conduct riot against Art exhibition. Each time when there is controversy, the market value of these paintings are going up. And who own these paintings now? Are they pay RSS leaders to promote these works?

    2) Till this date, I have never come across a single Hindu Goddess, whose upper part was covered. Can any one help me to find one?

    Please read further–

This new controversy confirms the view that many among the younger generation in Kerala are more influenced by Cable TV programmes. When the first controversy about Hussein paintings, broke out, no one from Kerala endorsed the fanatics’ view. Though much later, even a well informed Collecter, Amitabh Kant, took initiative to bring Hussein to Kerala. This showed that, the Kerala’s modern thinking culture has some fundamental difference from that of the people from Hindi Cow-belt. One reason was that reformers like Sri Narayanan, Chattambi Swamikal, Ayyankali, Sahodaran Ayyappan et al. Kumaran Asan had already re-interpreted epics and our Sita questioned Rama’s thoughts which are influenced by Vedic culture maxims. The second reason why the then, Kerala people were not bothered is the modern progressive thoughts disseminated by Kesari, EMS, Progressive writers like Thakazhi, Basheer, Pottekkad, Kesavadev. And also modern philosophers like MN Vijayan and others. Kesavadev even appealed to burn all bundles of old, rotten and gnawed palm leaf manuscripts. This is one reason why Kerala has a very progressive cinema culture, as Malayalam cinema took stories from modern literature.

Contrary to this, early Malayalam TV shows are not directly influenced by modern, progressive literature. They are more influenced by early Hindi TV shows and popular American TV shows. An exception was the early programmes Telecasted in Asianet, when that was run by legendary Sasikumar. The fact that most TV producers dont even has own ideas and creativity, but just copy and paste American programmes to Kerala Miniscreen is shameful. Some of these producers even dont have brain to find a new name to the American wine, when bottled and marketed in Kerala. A Good example is, “American Voice”.

Kerala has a new generation, which has grown up, watching the third rated TV commercials, and they are obviously more informed than old generation, but lack the ability to apply own intelligence. I dont say, they are less intelligent, in fact, i firmly believe they are more intelligent. But if you have a conversation with most of them, one may doubt if they have shit in their skull and brain in their ass. See the volumes of Blogs written by young Malayalis, online.

I am amused to see, these young idiots congregate in front of Temples, Mosques and Churches. When I was walking on the front premise of one famous old temple, a group of young boys clad in Saffron, who were roaming around, were heard commenting: “He, with his skills, married her, and we with our skills satisfy her…” It may not be unusual we hear such comments now a days, but isnt it shocking, these youngsters talk this subject in front of a Temple (I heard this when I was walking down the stairs of Sri Rama Temple, Thiruvangad, Thalassery, these guys were climbing up the steps from the Temple Pond). I cant imagine a devotee ever talking such things when inside a temple. Of course, they may talk any nonsense when outside, that is different. In case of Kerala, young generation dont have the real faith. But they have a tendency to exhibit the psuedo faith. Tamil and Kannada people have real faith in God, and that is part of their daily life. As a person, who live among (many days with them) Kannadigas and Tamilians, I can understand the depth of their faith. But what Kerala youngsters, (Hindus, Christians and Muslims) is a kind of deceptive religious exhibitionism. (I am sorry, by lack of proficiency in English and my lack of formal study about such aspects of social life, dont help me to find apt words to describe it.)

When the Hussein Controversy first happened in early 1990s, i remember, I discussed this subject with a Rashtriya Swayam Sevak activist and showed the prints of all these controversial paintings (rather sketches). Of course, I didnt reveal I was showing the MF Hussein art works to him. I asked him, if any of these sketches indeed hurt his religiuos sentiments. Naturally, he answered: “NO”. When I revealed that he was critical about the same MF Hussein paintings, he just viwed, he was shocked.

In fact, none of these Controversial paintings by MF Hussien are painted recently. Most of these youngsters were not even born then. They are all painted in early 1970s or some time around that period. None of these paintings hurt the religious sentiments of any Hindu for a long 30 plus years.

I have tried to talk with many of these idiots who criticise MF Hussein for painting Hindu Goddesses nude. Their stupid argument is, will MF Hussien paint his wife or daughter nude? Will you tolerate if MF Hussein paint your mother nude?– This is the intelligence level of average MF Hussein Critics.

90% of the average Hindu devotees wont even say, what MF Husein had painted is Hindu Goddesses.(I am not blindly claiming this. I have actually tested this, by showing these sketches to devout Hindus. Most of them dont even show much interest to watch it. And even those who recognize, these sketches have resemblence with some epic characters, were only amused and not hurt.

The whole problem is not the “paintings” themselves. But the description given under these sketches. And the provocative slogans written by Hindutva Chauvinists as part of their hate campaign. Most of the Hate Campaigners didnt even notice the paintng/ sketch. And if they do, they refuse to have a discussion. There is nothing surprising about it. We all know most of our religious chauvinists dont have reading habits, and they are known for relatively less intelligence (I am saying this in the context of Kerala. It is well known that, it was Karnataka based Kongini speaking activists who spread RSS ideology in Kerala and they first targetted anti-social elements. And that is one reason why most RSS caders in kerala are either less intelligent or lack any reading / intellectual skills. However there are exceptions. And this remarks is not suitable for the “sympathisers” of RSS. We all know there are a large number of informed, well educated youngsters who are influenced by Soft-communal vision. Again, when you go to Karnataka, (I am talking about Old mysore belt and not Canara region), most RSS sympathisers and activists are well read and highly qualified. Of course, RSS tried to recruite anti-socials in every state, but in Kerala, most educated sections were never attracted to RSS ideology (with some exceptions). But in Karnataka (except in Vokkaliga, Kuruba and other communities), due to caste considerations, large number of educated sections also joined RSS. For example, most of the Kannada based Dailies, except Praja Vani, dont have much Non-RSS sympathisers as journalists and editors. Tamil Nadu situation is different, the anti-Brahminism always gave caders to Dravidian parties, and Brahmins and those who are fed up by Dravidian politics some times looked Vajpayee for leadership.

In short, most Non- malayalis object to MF Hussein paintings purely because of religious sentiments and they have never noticed MF Hussein paintings, except a small upper-caste, urban middle class sections. Most of the Non-Malayalis are deeply hurt hearing that MF Hussein have portrayed Hindu Goddess nude. But they are not guided by any communal ideology. Hence, though it is difficult to approach them, once explained, they understand the facts. They dont have hatred for MF Hussein. They are more innocence.

But in the case of malayalis, especially young Malayalis, there is some thing unusual. They seem to have some close mind. Remember 75% of Malayalis, have whole heartedly accepted MF Hussein. I am talking about a very miniscule minority among Kerala Hindu population. They are not ready to discuss any issue, they dont want to watch MF Hussein paintings, they dont even want to know about Hindu traditions. Simply, they lack intelligence to understand these issues.

For example, I have visited many temples in South India, and I used to watch the sculptures of Hindu Goddes with a lot of care. Unfortunately some Hindu temples cover the Gods and Goddesses with some cloth. But in almost all cases, Hindu Goddesses are always portayed nude in Hindu Temples. (This is not my invention. In fact i read an article written by a Scholar who claimed, he couldnt even find an original Hindu Goddess who is not nude. (I am not referring to the Hindu Temples built after the arrival of Christianity in India. I am talking about Hindu Temples built according to original Hindu faith and concepts.)

None of the Hindu Goddess cover their upper part in any of the temples. If any of our respected friends have any doubt, please verify. Next time, when you visit any Hindu temple, please find out when that temple was established. (This is relatively easy now, as Tourism Department has put notice boards in most ancient temples). Keep observing. Please let me know if you can find a SINGLE HINDU GODDESS WHO HAS COVERED UPPER PART OF THE BODY.

Our young psuedo Hindu believers, simply dont know what is Hinduism, they rarely visit Hindu temples. Their knowlege about Hindu temple start from Shabarimala and end at Guruvayoor. (Out of this, Shabarimala was never a Hindu temple, that is why it allowed lower-caste and upper caste never bothered to visit it earier. Some of our Kongu Nadu temples and Goddes Madappa and others have good similarity with the concept of Ayyappa. Also there is good similarity between Budhist traditions, in rituals. Remember, most places where Shaivite traditions are practised, Brahmins are not allowed to perform rituals. This indicates there is some major difference between some of our Vaishnava temples and Shaivite temples. And when you go back to 8th cetury and back, Shaivite beliefs, Jainist beliefs, Budhist beliefs and Dravidian beliefs all flowed together.

Another question we need to answer is actually asked by Tehelka magazine to Sree Rama Sena Chief (which is an RSS promoted body- though RSS may deny this officially.). Tehelka reporters approached Srirama sena Chief and explained they are artists and they also want to become famous like MF Hussein. When Tehelka reporters requested the help from Srirama Sena they agreed to conduct a Riot in Bangalore for a payment. The idea was, if Hindutva Chauvinist goons conduct a riot against any painter’s art exhibition, he can become famous and his paintings also can fetch handsome price. Shocking fact is that, SriRamasena agreed to this on live Television and they knew that if a riot is conducted against an Art exhibition it is the artist who is becoming multi-millionair.

This means all RSS leaders (except our low-intelligent street players) already know this secret. That RSS and Shiv Sena conduct riots against an Art work to increase the profitability of some one else. The interesting question is — whose profitability RSS try to increase? It is not MF Hussein in this case. Because, MF Hussein dont have even a single controversial art work with him. Remember they were painted more than 30 years back. These sketches are in the custody of unknown persons. Each time a controversy is played out, the market value of these controversial paintings are increased. Who possess these paintings now? Obviously RSS top leaders know them and is there a possibility RSS or at least some leaders have received payment to conduct riots and controversies?

The news report shows Meenchanta college authority has decided to withdraw the magazine. Nice. Chimpanzees are capable of spontaneous planning for a future state or event, based on the past experience. Chimpanzees are perhaps the only animal other than Human being, who can take an intelligent decision about future based on the past experience. It is amusing to know who are these “authorities in Meenchanta College”. Some times I wonder my neigbour’s buffalo shows some indications that it learns from past and take future decisions. Where is the position of “Meenchanta Authorities”, in evolutionary ladder, with respect to my neighbour’s buffalo?
