Those who refuse to learn the lessons from history, would eventually realize where their place is going to be…

Com. V.S. Achuthanandan opined (TV interview) soon after the Assembly Election results were announced: “Bengal defeat is because of the deviation from party policies and because of its anti-peasant line. Though party tried to correct the mistakes, is not effective enough prevent the downturn”

A few years back Budhadeb ridiculed intellectuals like Prabhat Patnaik (when asked by CNN-IBN) that Left intellectuals are not in touch with reality, indirectly meaning they are all idiots.

Now Praful Bidwai says Prabhat Patnaik is ridiculed inside the Party forums. The fact, Prabhat Patnaik is ridiculed publicly. And these words are very much on record (stated by Budhadeb to CNN-IBN and also by Nirupam Sen to Shekar Gupta.) Why are these people not repeating what they told earlier? Let Budhadeb and Nirupam Sen publicly state that they still stand by what they said earlier. Or let them show some decency and apologize for what they had said. If obligation towards TATA is preventing them from taking a stand, let them first consult with TATA or Niira Radia before clarifying their present stand. Men and women are expected to have one stand. Can we expect at least that much from Polit Bureau members? Or is it a crime to expect PB members to be men and women with one stand? We can understand Budhadeb and Nirupam Sen has some business deal and they are not permitted to speak about Business matters outside Business forums. That is okay. We know that Budhadeb had partcipated in more Business house meetings than Polit Bureau or other party meetings and Budhadeb is at least honest when he stated that he doesnt agree with Communist Policies and he will openly question the leadership. But what one fail to understand is, what are the men, women and hijras (all these sections have equal status according to Indian Constitution. I have great respect for them) in the Leadership, who are not yet blessed by Nira Radia has to say? At least AbdullaKkutty is honest. If someone is blockhead, it is not their fault. We should not assess one person according to his/her head. But not having integrity is a serious crime.

The questions the CPI(M) leaders need to answer now is–
    1) Who authorized Budhadeb to work as the Real Estate Broker of TATA? Under what clause of CPI(M) constitution, (not to talk about Indian Constitution), Budhadeb forcefully acquired land from farmers and allot to corporate at a subsidized rate? Remember, no policy announcement was made, which was applicable to all industries and all business- big and small– prior to these forceful acquisitions and cold-blood massacre.

    2) Who allowed Nirupam Sen to work as the sub-contractor of TATA’s agent Nira Radia and allowed her to manipulate the Govt run institutions? What were the secret assurances given to TATA during the midnight talks just before TATA officially announcing the temporary halt of Nano project? What was the deal? Nira Radia was appointed as the advisor of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation by Budhadeb and Nirupam Sen. When they appointed her, obviously they knew Nirra Radia was TATA’s corporate Lobbyist. With the full knowledge of who was Nira Radia and what are her intentions, Nirupam Sen appointed her, because he was so impressed by her revolutionary credentials. And these two guys are still Polit Bureau Members ! Why? Obviously because the other leaders who are below Polit Bureau think they are eligible. No one questions the intelligence of Budhadeb and Nirupam Sen. But what is the average IQ of those who allow these guys to continue in Polit Bureau? There lies the secret of Indian Revolution. When Budhadeb and Nirupam Sen allowed Nira Radia to represent West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, they were actually allowing TATA to sit in both sides of Negotiation Table. TATA bargained for TATA Company and TATA’s agent bargained on behalf of West Bengal Government. This is called Revolutionary Politics. Just because a section of West Bengal party members are Careerists and people with selfish motives, the entire nation has allowed this to happen — again in the name of Revolutionary politics.

Did they learn after West Bengal Defeat? No, they are not in a mood to learn. When Mamata introduced a bill to return unused land to farmers at Singur, the CPM MLAs walked out of the Assembly. They are now campaigning that TATA’s interests are not protected !! (If any one has doubt please see the discussion at Nilotpal Basu’s forum). These so called revolutionary leaders were arguing that, Mamata cant return the land as it is illegal. Abdul Rezzak Molla held press conference and demanded the land should be returned. But West Bengal CPM leaders were apparently mesmerized by TATA. Now the Court has ruled the bill introduced by Mamata is legally valid and Government can take back land. I wonder why CPM is not dismissing West Bengal State Committee? Long back VM Sudheeran had stated about Congress Government: “If any one has taken any amount from some people, let them return it please..” We know that TATA had approached CPM and Mamata earlier with funds. If any individual has by mistake taken any fund, let them please return it… At least let the Kerala Party collect enough fund and send to West Bengal Committee, if that can solve some problems.

    3) Wikileaks reveal that Budhadeb assured US Diplomats — if CPI(M) refuse to approve neo-liberal policies, the party should perish. Remember, Budhadeb did not tell this to US diplomats in presence of others, only when they asked for a one to one secret meeting with Budhadeb. What was the need for Budhadeb to give this assurance to USA diplomats secretly? What was the deal? Why CPIM is not expelling him for this?

    4) Even after CPIM rejecting the land grab policy of Budhadeb Govt, West bengal govt worked with Infosys and employed goons to evacuate land for Infosys. According to media reports, these thugs were close to CPIM leaders and they were employed in a secret understanding between Infosys and Budhadeb, as officially party polit bureau discouraged forcefully evicting land in the aftermath of Nandigram incident. Why is Budhadeb not arrested when the local landowner was murdered by the thugs employed by him? Why is he and Nirupam Sen not expelled from party even after he going against the spirit of party decision on land acquisition?

    5) On several occasions, Budhadeb publicly claimed that I-T is an essential service and strike can not be allowed in IT industry. Which party policy states this? Why is this person not expelled from party even after going against cpim line?

    6) CAG has categorically stated in its report that by allocating land to TATA at a subsidized rate, West Bengal govt incurred huge loss to the public exchequer. When CPIM is up in arms against DMK, Congress and Arun Shourie for similar scams, why the party is not expelling Budhadeb and Nirupam Sen? The answer given to me is that there is no evidence to show that Budhadeb got financially benefited. But what evidence exist to prove that Arun Shourie or Balakrishna Pillai got financially benefited? Political benefit and the conveniences he enjoys due to his connivence with TATA and Corporate Lobby is more serious than relatively paltry financial benefits.

    7) It is a known fact that sections of Bengal CPI(M) leaders have publicly pushed for alliance with Congress during the Nuclear deal wrangle and during the pre-assembly election phase. This was after the Congress’ deceitful manipulations during the Nuclear bill stand-off. And it is well known that these handful leaders prefer a Congress-Left govt in the center as these individuals are actively lobbying for the posts of Indian President, Prime Minister or other influential positions, as it is perceived that, in the event of Congress alliance failing to get simple majority in Parliament, the post of Prime Minister may be offered to a senior CPI(M) leader (Jyothi Basu was offered this earlier, Budhadeb eyed for this), or the post of Home Minister (Indrajit Gupta got this though he was reluctant to occupy the post) or the Presidency (Somanath lobbied for this). Every political observer knows that what is for the best interest of CPIM is a third front comprising the Non-Congress, Non-BJP regional parties. Any National alliance with Congress is suicidal for many regional parties (eg: TDP, JD(S), AGP with all waverings). A pre-poll Third Front arrangement, even without winnability, and just as parking-slot, would only boost the chance of the emergence of third alternatives in various Indian States. When these are evident, no right thinking CPI(M) leader, except those who are inspired by personal ambitions, can push for conniving with Congress. The question is, why CPI(M) is allowing Budhadeb to remain in the influential position of party, when thousands of its caders are led to martyrdom, in pursuit of, otherwise righteous organisational and political growth. These leaders consider that, in case of Congress becoming a minority partner in a winning combination, then only a Bengal CPI(M) leader (who gets more media-middle class backing compared to CPIM leaders from other states) can occupy Prime Ministership and other important positions, by garnering support from both Congress and regional parties.

Expell Budhadeb and Nirupam Sen from CPI(M) to prevent the rout of CPIM. If you are living in any rural setting in India, you know that, the main division in the society and the most important determining factor of social, political and economical status in Rural India (except Kerala) is land ownership. And any right thinking person can easily see that any political party which has registered even marginal growth in the recent past (after Mandal-Masjid waves), accomplished that only by taking a stand against unjust land acquisitions. Even those parties which are not loud enough in opposing land acquisitions, or perceived to be sympathetic to Corporate are dumped by rural masses.

It was a golden opportunity offered by history to CPI(M) to take a firm anti-Corporate- Anti-land acquisition policy and expand its base to all over India. But certain political leaders who are in the payroll of Corporate and CIA is preventing the CPIM from becoming influential. Are we going to decide who are this anti-communist agents within the party after 5 or 10 decades when some wikileaks come with new revelations? Are we going to blindly trust all our English Speaking, urban leadership till then? Are we going to trust the leaders only because they are neatly dressed and are darling to media? Or are we going to judge our leaders based on the political stand they take on each issues?
